Kenya National Deaf Women Peace Network (KNDWPN) is a Community-Based Organization which was formed out of a unique experience of individual Deaf women. Some Deaf women participated in a National Women's Peace and Human Rights Workshop in Nairobi organized by Women United for Peace -Kenya (WUPI) in 2002. This was the first time Deaf Women were invited to participate alongside hearing women and in a forum of this nature since its inception. It marked the beginning of spirited efforts to participate in other forums and also forge new networks as members became intensely aware of what they had been missing out on such as violation of their right to information and benefits of exercising of right to freedom of expression on issues affecting them in their daily lives. The lessons learned, the knowledge gained and the passion and hindsight it created was enough reason to form a new organization to take care, interest and needs of Deaf women on matters of Human right, health, leadership, advocacy and resource mobilization. Kenya National Deaf Women Peace Network was thus born.
